In this follow-up study to Getting Beyond Breakeven, TDC conducted a financial analysis of arts and culture organizations in Greater Philadelphia, looking at change over time and the effect of growth on organizations’ financial health.

Working with the Consortium of Small Arts Funders (CSAF) in Pittsburgh, TDC analyzed a group of small and mid-sized arts organizations to better understand if natural cohorts existed, and if so, whether they could help promote audience growth.
2009
Commissioned by The Pew Charitable Trusts and the William Penn Foundation, TDC studied the financial health and capitalization challenges of 158 arts and culture organizations in greater Philadelphia. The study found that when it comes to capitalization, strong financial literacy does not translate into robust financial health, and delves into TDC’s latest thinking on the practice changes at individual organizations and within the system as a whole that could bridge this disconnect.
